Sunday Modern presents First Edition, a group exhibition in West Los Angeles, California of artists working across contemporary photography and photography-adjacent visual practices.
The exhibition is a look at what photography can be now: personal, experimental, unexpected, and distinctly human. We’re interested in work with a strong point of view. Photography is intentionally interpreted broadly. Submissions may include traditional photographic practices, experimental processes, manipulated images, collage, mixed media, photographic objects, and other visual work rooted in photography.
First Edition brings together artists with their own visual language. Carefully selected, but not overly formal, a more open contemporary.
Thirty artists will make up the inaugural edition of Sunday Modern: First Edition.
Submission Requirements
Artwork Requirements & Installation
Each submitted image must be 10 MB or less, no larger than 2,500 pixels on the longest side, and contain no watermarks or borders.
Artists are responsible for providing their selected work in its final, installation-ready form by the designated installation dates. This may be done by shipping or delivering finished work to and from our Los Angeles studio, or by coordinating and covering the cost of printing services for digital submissions. Sunday Modern can recommend printing solutions, but the selection, coordination, and cost of producing the final work remain the artist’s responsibility. Framing is not required.
We welcome ambitious and experimental submissions, including large-scale photography, video works (MP4, no audio), and visual or spatial installations. Artists must provide all materials, hardware, and instructions necessary for the installation of their work.
Artists must be 18 years or older at the time of submission.
Copyrights & Image Usage
All artists retain full copyright and ownership of their work.
Selected artists grant Sunday Modern a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to reproduce and display their selected work in connection with the exhibition, including exhibition materials, the Sunday Modern website, social media, press, and other Sunday Modern promotional materials. Any use outside the exhibition will be limited to Sunday Modern materials, with proper artist credit provided. Sunday Modern will not reproduce, display, or otherwise use submitted work from this submission form unless the artist is selected and included in First Edition.
A Statement on Artificial Intelligence
AI has an important place in technology and innovation, but we believe there should still be spaces dedicated to people making art for people. The artwork we show comes from human ideas, choices, mistakes, experiments, and expressions. For this reason, we do not accept artwork that has been generated by AI or that uses AI-generated imagery as a major component of the final work. All submissions are reviewed using AI detection tools to identify signs of artificially-generated content.

The submission fee is $25 for up to 5 images. For each additional image it is $6/per. You may submit a maximum of 10 images in total.
